Aluminum-Free Deodorant Cream: How It Works

Deodorant Cream

If you are used to a stick or a spray, a deodorant in a jar can seem odd at first. It is simple once you have tried it. This guide explains how our deodorant cream works, how to put it on, and what to expect.

Deodorant is not antiperspirant

Antiperspirants use aluminum salts to reduce sweat. Deodorants do not stop sweat. They deal with odor. Our cream is a deodorant, so you will still sweat, which is what your body is meant to do. The goal is that you do not smell.

What is in it

  • Magnesium hydroxide does the odor work. It is the same gentle mineral found in some stomach remedies.
  • Kaolin clay and potato starch soak up moisture.
  • Organic shea butter, beeswax, jojoba oil and sunflower oil make it creamy and easy on the skin.
  • Vitamin E oil helps keep the oils fresh.

There is no aluminum and no baking soda. Baking soda is common in natural deodorants, but some people find it irritating, so we leave it out.

How to apply it

  1. Start with clean, dry skin.
  2. Scoop a pea sized amount with a clean fingertip.
  3. Rub it in fully, the way you would a lotion.

A little is enough. Using too much is the most common mistake, and it can leave marks on clothes. We call it a whole body deodorant because you can use it anywhere you want to stay fresh, such as feet or the backs of the knees.

What to expect when you switch

Some people are happy from day one. For others it takes a few days to find the right amount. On a long or hot day you may want to reapply in the afternoon.

Scents and sizes

It comes in Rose Earth, Cozy Calm, Sweet Bloom and Unscented, in 1 oz and 2 oz jars. If your underarms are sensitive, unscented is the safest place to start.
