Castile Hair and Body Wash: One Bottle, Head to Toe

Hair and Body Wash

One bottle in the shower instead of three is a nice idea. Our hair and body wash is built on castile soap, which is gentle enough for skin and still cleans hair properly. Here is what is in it and how to get good results with it.

What castile soap is

Castile soap is real soap made from plant oils. The name comes from the Castile region of Spain, where it was first made with olive oil. It cleans without the synthetic detergents found in most body washes and shampoos.

What else is in the bottle

  • Organic castile soap does the cleaning.
  • Witch hazel is a plant extract with a long history in skin care.
  • Glycerin draws moisture toward the skin, so you do not feel stripped afterward.
  • Organic jojoba oil and vitamin E oil add a little softness back.

Scented bottles add a pair of essential oils. Unscented has none.

Using it on your body

Use it like any body wash: a small amount on a cloth, a sponge or your hands. It lathers well, so start with less than you think you need.

Using it on your hair

Real soap behaves a little differently from shampoo. A few tips help:

  • Wet your hair fully, work the wash into your scalp, and rinse very well.
  • If your water is hard, hair can feel coated after any soap. Many people follow with a rinse of diluted apple cider vinegar, about one part vinegar to four parts water, and then rinse again with plain water.
  • If your hair is color treated, try the wash on your body first. Soap can fade color faster than a color safe shampoo.

Scents and size

It comes in a 9 fl oz bottle in Rose Earth, Cozy Calm, Sweet Bloom and Unscented.
