Herbal Hair Oil: How to Use a Scalp Oil

Oiling the hair and scalp is one of the oldest hair care habits there is. Families in South Asia have passed it down for generations, usually with a slow scalp massage. Our hair oil is called Bloom Root, and it follows that tradition. Here is what is in it and how to use it.
What is in Bloom Root
The base is organic jojoba oil. Jojoba is light and close to the scalp’s own oils, so it does not sit heavy. Into that oil we infuse a blend of herbs with a long history in traditional hair care:
- Rosemary
- Neem
- Strawberry leaves
- Shikakai
- Hibiscus
- Gooseberry, also known as amla
- Bhringraj
Three ways to use it
- Before you wash. Part your hair, put a few drops on your scalp, and massage with your fingertips for a few minutes. Leave it on for at least thirty minutes, then shampoo as usual.
- Overnight. Do the same before bed and wash it out in the morning. Put a towel over your pillow.
- On the ends. Rub one or two drops between your palms and smooth them over dry ends to calm frizz and add shine.
How much to use
Less than you think. Start with a few drops and add more only if your scalp still feels dry. Fine hair needs very little. Thick or curly hair can take more. If your hair looks greasy afterward, you used too much, and a second shampoo will take care of it.
What to expect
We will not tell you an oil will transform your hair overnight. What regular oiling does is keep the scalp comfortable and the hair soft and easier to manage. The massage feels good too, which is reason enough for many people.
Good to know
The bottle holds 2 fl oz, which lasts a long time at a few drops per use. Keep it out of direct sun. If you have a sensitive scalp, try a drop behind your ear first.
